So, I've recently been asked by a number of people about how to get into teaching or tutoring.
Both have different paths but I will tell you how, based on my experience as a UK based teacher and tutor.
things may be different for those who are international, so I apologise!
To become a teacher you will need:
A bachelors degree in any subject
You will either go to university and get a PGCE [Post graduate certificate of education] or you can join the Teach First programme where you start teaching after 6-8 weeks of training and learn on the job
Whereas to become a tutor there are no specific requirements, although most clients prefer you to have a degree in your chosen subject, some experience and a DBS [Criminal background check].
For those of you starting out, there are several websites you can sign up to, and you will eventually build up a client base from there and word of mouth.
I have taught 5 members of the same family because they enjoyed my teaching so much!
Some websites i know for you get started on!
teachaway.com (international students)
If anyone has any other websites - feel free to add them to here!

Absolutely, I completely agree with you! Online tutoring is indeed a fantastic profession. I've had my fair share of experience on various platforms like tutorme.com and mytutor.co.uk , but I highly recommend that if someone wants to make tutoring a permanent career, they should consider developing their own platform.
A few months ago, I created my own platform, https://myexamrevision.com/, and the experience has been significantly better. If anyone is interested in collaborating with me or learning more about my journey, please feel free to reach out to me at sehaj@myexamrevision.com.
As for the advice you've provided on becoming a teacher or tutor, it's spot on! Having a bachelor's degree and possibly a PGCE for teaching or relevant subject knowledge, experience, and a DBS for tutoring are valuable assets. Building a client base through online platforms and word of mouth can be incredibly rewarding—I've even had the privilege of teaching multiple family members due to the positive feedback from my students.
Further, a piece of advice would be to list your tutoring services on Google Business. This can significantly boost your visibility and credibility among potential clients. If anyone is just starting out, there are numerous websites to explore to kickstart your tutoring career. Good luck to everyone on their journey into teaching and tutoring! 📚✨
